How to make Special Kadapa Upma | Full Recipe | Good Taste

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Semolina (rava) Suji
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 1 Tomato, chopped
  • 2 Green chillies, chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Chana dal
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 10-12 Curry leaves
  • 2-3 tbsp Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required
  • Coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)

For the Kadapa masala powder:

  • 2-3 Dry red chillies
  • 1 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp Poppy seeds
  • 1-inch Cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 Cloves
  • 2 Cardamom pods

Instructions :

  • Dry roast the Kadapa masala powder ingredients in a pan until they turn slightly brown and release their aroma. Then, let them cool down and grind them to a fine powder using a mixer grinder.
  • Add salt and the ground Kadapa masala powder. Mix well and cook for a minute.

2. How to make Putnala Podi/ Roosted Gram Powder

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Fried Gram / Roosted Chana dal/ Roosted Gram Powder / Pappullu
  • 6 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Now, add salt, red chilli powder, fried gram and make a powder.
  • Towards the end, add peeled garlic and pulse to a fine powder.
  • Remove from the mixer. Spread a plate for it to cool down slight. Then, store.
  • Serve this with hot rice with ghee. It can be served with tiffin as well.

Step 1: Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chana dal, and urad dal. Once the seeds start to splutter, add the chopped onions, green chillies, and curry leaves. Fry them until the onions turn translucent.

Step 2: Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.

Step 3: Add water and bring it to a boil. Once the water starts boiling, reduce the flame to low and slowly add the semolina Upma (Suji), stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.

Step 4: Cover the pan and let it cook on low flame for 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Step 5: Once the semolina Upma (Suji) is cooked and all the water has been absorbed, turn off the flame and let it rest for a couple of minutes.

Step 6: Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with Putnala Podi/ Roosted Gram Powder or Kadapa masala powder.

Tips:

  • You can adjust the spice level of the dish by adding or reducing the number of green chillies in the recipe.
  • Make sure to roast the Kadapa masala powder ingredients on low flame to prevent them from burning.
  • You can also add vegetables like carrots, peas, and beans to the Kadapa Upma to make it more nutritious.
